Semiconductor memory is also called memory chip.Simply put,it is an electronic device that uses semiconductor materials(or magnetic materials)to store and read data.Every time you open an application,save a photo or load a game,the memory chip is behind you to quickly store or release the charge.
According to whether data can be saved after power failure,it can be divided into two categories:memory chips can be divided into volatile memory and nonvolatile memory.
1.Volatile memory:once the power is cut off,the data will disappear.The typical representative is RAM(Random Access Memory),which is subdivided into SRAM(Static Random Access Memory)and DRAM(Dynamic Random Access Memory).
①SRAM memory chip is extremely fast,but it has high cost and small capacity,and is usually used in the cache between CPU and main memory.
②DRAM memory chip is slightly slower than SRAM,but its cost is lower and its capacity is larger,so it is widely used as the main memory of electronic equipment(such as 8GB/16GB memory stick of computer).
2.Non-volatile memory:data remains after power failure.It mainly includes read-only memory(ROM)and Flash memory.
①ROM cannot be changed after writing,and can only be read many times,which is often used for firmware storage.
②Flash memory supports multiple erasing,which is flexible.Flash memory is divided into NAND Flash and NOR Flash：NAND Flash is the main force of solid state hard disk(SSD),U disk and mobile phone flash memory because of its low cost and fast erasing and writing speed;NOR Flash has fast reading speed but high cost,and is suitable for code execution scenarios,such as Internet of Things devices and BIOS chips.
